Governor General to Attend International Donors’ Conference Towards a New Future for Haiti
OTTAWA—At the request of the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will attend the International Donors’ Conference towards a new future for Haiti, in New York, on March 31, 2010.
The Governor General will be present as an observer at this event, which is being organized by the United States and the United Nations, in co-operation with the Government of Haiti.
Her Excellency went to the Republic of Haiti in 2006 for the installation of President Préval. Since January 2009, she has undertaken two important working visits to Haiti. Her latest took place on March 8 and 9, following the January 12, 2010, earthquake.
