Message From the Governor General Following the Earthquake in Chile
OTTAWA—My husband and I, along with the entire Canadian population, were shocked to learn of the very powerful earthquake that struck parts of Chile this morning.
From one natural disaster to another, here we are put to the test once again. After the terrible earthquake that devastated a number of cities and villages in Haiti just weeks ago, the destruction has made its way to Chile. We are seeing images of carnage, desolation and suffering.
We would like our friends the people of Chile, as well as Canadians of Chilean descent, to know that we are with them in our hearts and in our minds during these most trying and worrisome times. There is a vital need for all of us to join forces again and ensure that solidarity overcomes such terrible adversity.
